There was a time when almost every hand held a cigarette. It was a sign of style, relaxation, even status. For years, the tobacco industry convinced us that smoking was not dangerous.
Icons like James Dean, Sean Connery, Humphrey Bogart, Audrey Hepburn, etc., in advertisements and movies promoted cigarettes – creating the illusion that smoking was a symbol of freedom, power, and attractiveness. Those who warned about the dangers were ridiculed, and the truth was systematically swept under the rug.

For the first time, it was officially confirmed that:

Smoking directly causes lung cancer in men and probably in women, etc.
Smoking is the main cause of chronic bronchitis, etc.
Smoking significantly increases the risk of heart disease, etc.

That document was a turning point – after it, health warnings began to appear, cigarette advertising was restricted, and later smoking was banned in many public places.
However, the tobacco industry continued to profit from the same addiction for decades, downplaying the risks in public.

TODAY – A NEW ADDICTION, SAME PRINCIPLE

Today, in almost every hand we see a mobile phone. And once again, we are told it’s harmless. This time they’re selling us a “necessity,” not a “lifestyle.”
And once again, famous faces – Lionel Messi, Gal Gadot, Selena Gomez, Millie Bobby Brown, etc. – promote mobile phones and technology in advertisements, presenting them as an essential part of modern life.

According to research, as many as 93.76% of mobile phone users admit that it’s the last thing they put down before sleeping and the first thing they pick up when they wake up.

In both cases – with cigarettes and with mobile phones – there is a “normalization” of behavior: the industry and society accept the harmful habit because it brings profit, and the harm is acknowledged only much later.
Many people think “if it were really harmful, the government would ban it”, not realizing that economic interests often take precedence over public health – at least until the problem becomes politically impossible to ignore.

Mobile phones are currently in a grey zone:
